LUNAR
TRAIL

An overland rover simulation across the lunar surface
[ TITLE SCENE IMAGE ] images/scenes/title_screen.gif
Inspired by the 1971 classic Oregon Trail. Where pioneers once crossed 3,200 km of American wilderness, your crew crosses 2,400 km of airless lunar regolith. No rivers to ford — but solar panels to charge. No dysentery — but oxygen scrubber failures. No hostile weather — but lunar nights that last 14 Earth days and drop to -173°C. Every decision matters.
MISSION BRIEFING

Drive your lunar rover 2,400 km from Tranquility Base to Shackleton Station at the lunar south pole. A 90-Earth-day journey across one of the most hostile environments ever attempted.

🌑

OBJECTIVE

Reach Shackleton Station with at least one crew member alive. Your score depends on crew survived, resources remaining, and how fast you made the journey.

RESOURCES

Manage four resources: Power (rover battery), Oxygen (life support), Food (crew nutrition), and Morale (the hardest one to fix).

🚨

EVENTS

Crises will test you: micrometeorite strikes, dust storms, CO₂ scrubber failures, crew conflicts, solar flares, and the 14-day Lunar Night.

🏁

CHOICES

Every crisis gives you 2–3 options. Some require supplies you may not have. There's rarely a perfect answer — only less bad ones.

ABOUT LUNAR TRAIL

Lunar Trail is a survival strategy game inspired by the 1971 classic Oregon Trail. Where pioneers once crossed 3,200 km of American wilderness, your crew crosses 2,400 km of airless lunar regolith.

The challenges are different — no rivers to ford, but solar panels to charge. No dysentery, but oxygen scrubber failures. No hostile weather, but lunar nights that last 14 Earth days and drop to -173°C.

Every decision matters. Ration your power. Watch your crew's morale. And whatever you do — don't miss a charging window.

POWER CELLS
Emergency battery packs. Each auto-activates when rover power drops below 15%, adding 30% charge.
0 $200 each
🫁
OXYGEN CANISTERS
Backup O₂ supply. Auto-taps when cabin oxygen drops below 20%, restoring 40%.
0 $150 each
🍱
FOOD RATIONS
Compressed ration boxes. Auto-opens when food drops below 20%, restoring 30%.
0 $50 each
🔩
REPAIR KITS
Fix mechanical failures, patch hulls, seal power cells. Without these, breakdowns are permanent.
0 $300 each
💉
MEDICAL KITS
Treat injuries and radiation sickness. One kit per incident. Your medic is good, but not a miracle worker.

MISSION CLASSIFICATION

Select your difficulty. This affects how often crises occur and how hard they hit.

One Quick Question
This helps us know whether to walk you through the basics before you launch.
🍱 FOOD RATION SETTING
MEAGER RATIONS ACTIVE
Food lasts roughly 2× longer than normal. Morale drops slowly over time — the crew is hungry and they know it. Best used when food supplies are dangerously low.
STANDARD RATIONS ACTIVE
Balanced consumption. No morale effect. This is the default setting and the right choice for most of the mission.
FILLING RATIONS ACTIVE
Food burns 50% faster, but morale climbs gradually over time. Use this to recover crew morale quickly — just make sure you have enough food to afford it.
